Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI), the insurance arm of Warren Buffett’s global re/insurance company, has entered the surety market in Spain. Jesús Barbero is to lead the new product line.
Constanza Gállegos, Country Manager, BHSI in Spain, stated: “We are excited to lead BHSI’s entry into the European surety market.
“By bringing BHSI’s long-view commitment, credit rating and financial strength to the surety market in Spain, we are answering an expressed need of our customers and brokers.”
With more than two decades of experience specialising in surety bonds, Barbero will head the product line as Head of Surety, a Madrid-based role.
Prior to joining BHSI, Barbero served 15 years leading surety at CASER, an insurance group providing home and health solutions, among others.
As the company expands its surety services into Spain, it will aim to build and provide different surety solutions for a variety of projects and risks in the country.
As part of its global expansion plans, BHSI has also recently opened a new office in Stockholm, Sweden, to serve the Nordic countries, with Anna Green as Head of Nordics.
The Nordic office will offer services in Executive & Professional Lines, General Property, Energy, and Construction.
