Ross Bertossi has been announced as the new Vice President of Global Underwriting for Chubb Group, succeeding Jacques Bonneau who is to retire at the end of the year after nearly 40 years in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
Bertossi held the position of Executive Vice President, Excess Casualty, North America Insurance at Chubb since the firm’s acquisition by ACE in 2016, and will now take on the role of Vice President of Global Underwriting.
In his new role he will report to John Keogh, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chubb, and have responsibility for advancing the company’s underwriting practices, which includes general underwriting policy and underwriting management best practices, says Chubb.
Bertossi joined ACE in 2002 as an Executive Vice President within its Medical Risk unit, before taking on the role of Executive Vice President, ACE Casualty Risk. Prior to ACE he worked at CNA HealthPro as a Senior Vice President.
Commenting on the appointment, Keogh said; “The craft of underwriting is a hallmark of the Chubb brand. Throughout his tenure with ACE and Chubb, Ross has demonstrated underwriting excellence in his business and contributed to our underwriting portfolio management efforts. His continued contributions to Chubb will be important to our future underwriting performance.”
Bertossi replaces Jacques Bonneau, who will retire at the end of 2017. Bonneau will work closely with Bertossi to ensure a smooth change over. Bonneau joined ACE in 1999 as Division President of the firm’s U.S. domiciled reinsurer, ACE Tempest Re USA, and was named President of ACE Tempest Re Group in 2005. He served as Executive Vice President of Global Underwriting since 2014.
“For over 15 years Jacques led the company’s reinsurance business with underwriting discipline and distinction and, more recently, under his leadership, Chubb developed increasingly sophisticated underwriting processes, methods and insights to improve our core risk-taking business.
“Jacques has been a trusted partner and a respected leader in our industry. On behalf of the entire management team, I would like to thank him for his many years of service and countless contributions. We wish him the very best during his retirement,” said EvanG. Greenberg, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chubb.
