P&C re/insurer Sompo International has appointed René Huber as Head of Marine & Specialty Insurance for Continental Europe.
He has over 25 years’ experience in multinational business, with a focus on specialty and marine products. He joins the company from AXA XL, where he most recently was Senior Manager of their Global Programs business.
Huber will be based in Zurich, Switzerland, and report to Ralph Brand, President Continental Europe Insurance, who said: “The European Specialty market is forecast to grow substantially every year for the next decade.
“René’s reputation, extensive experience and industry knowledge will be pivotal for Sompo International as we continue to develop our presence in this exciting and constantly evolving area.
“He will be responsible for developing our Specialty/Marine underwriting and distribution strategy, sustainably growing the book and building a strong team across Europe. I truly look forward to working with him.”
The news of Huber’s hire follows Simona Fumagalli’s appointment as Country Manager Insurance for Italy, part of the company’s growth plans across Continental Europe.
