AXA XL, the property and casualty division of global insurer AXA Group, has announced the promotion of Matthew Stitham to Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), Casualty in the Americas.<\/p>\n

\"AXAStitham succeeds Donnacha Smyth, who transitioned in November 2025 to the role of Global Chief Underwriting Officer, Casualty<\/a> at AXA XL, overseeing casualty underwriting operations worldwide.<\/p>\n

Based in San Francisco, Stitham will report to Donna Nadeau, Head of Large Commercial business.<\/p>\n

He joined AXA XL in 2007 and has since demonstrated strong leadership and expertise in casualty underwriting, playing a key role in the company\u2019s continued growth in the casualty market. Most recently, he served as Head of West Excess and Head of Excess Casualty.<\/p>\n

Earlier in his career, Stitham held positions at Zurich and Travelers.<\/p>
